Annotate Anywhere

By Alan Levine January 14, 2019 February 8, 2019 1

In our first round of annotation practice, we used a page on this site where the Hypothes.is tool was already preloaded for you. Now we expand our reach by showing you how to annotate anywhere. You just need to add a little helper to your web browser. Visit the Hypothes.is …

Roads of Annotation

By Alan Levine January 10, 2019 February 11, 2019 1

As you are reading Augmenting Human Intellect pay attention to phrases, sentences that catch your attention. Sometimes we call them “nuggets.” Respond to the nugget in your annotation. We don’t want to prescribe how or what to annotate on this project–so what follows are just a few suggestions to get …

clothed in fictionPerhaps one of the aspects of Engelbart's work was to use fiction to make concepts clear. And it's quite different from [speculative fiction](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speculative_fiction) in being grounded in every day life, actions.

The following is stated in the abstract as the goal: [improving the intellectual effectiveness of the individual](https://hyp.is/jnI14peMEemp8FPlfADa-g/1962paper.org/web.htmlf) What a revelation, literally. I would recommend Doug's [account of the 'Experience with Our User Systems'](https://hyp.is/CfmLFJsdEemuSBNFL_V9cA/www.bitsavers.org/pdf/sri/arc/Study_For_The_Development_of_Human_Intellect_Augmentation_Techniques_Mar67.pdf) that show that NLS delivered more then he envisioned in 1962.

I sort-of lived through that as well, and I suspect my writing became much more about assembling arguments or narratives from discreet chunks of research, after I had access to tools like Endnote and Scrivener. Less like yellow-legal-pad or even typewriter composition.
